Since the FIFA World Cup 2022 Argentina’s Lionel Messi has been one of the most talked about subjects because we all really wanted him to win it this time. As the tournament now reached its final part, Argentina sees itself in the final, for the second time in three world cup installments. However, this time around the South Americans would definitely want to take it all the way.
Messi played an extremely important part in the la Albiceleste’s journey throughout the world cup, especially after their first-match defeat against mediocre Saudi Arabia. Currently, Messi sits atop in both goals and assists, making him a favorite to win the Golden Ball award, once again just like he did in 2014.

Messi and Co defeated Croatia in their much-anticipated semi-final match on November 14, 2022. They won against their European counterparts in an emphatic fashion with the scoreline being 3-0. Now Argentina waits for either France or Morocco at the final match of the tournament.
In his post-match interview, Lionel however gave a rather sad statement that the final will be the last match he will play for his home nation. He will retire after this world cup. Although the majority of us knew that this will be Messi’s last world cup, it is sad to hear it. In the interview, while unraveling his plan to hang up his international boots, he said,
“Everything that I lived in this World Cup has been emotional, seeing how much it has been enjoyed in Argentina. There are a lot of years from this year to the next one. I don’t think I will be able to do that. To finish this way is brilliant.”
The PSG star also asserted that he and his team will give their all to win the coveted Del Mundial that has been alluring him for decades. Here’s hoping he wins it this time.
The final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held on Sunday, 18th December at Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar.
