Enzo Fernandez is an Argentinian player who plays as a central midfielder. He also plays as an attacking midfielder sometimes. Fernandez started training football in River Plate back in 2006 and remained there for more than a decade.
After leaving River Plate, Enzo joined Defensa y Justicia on loan and made a Debut in September 2020. After a year, he came back to his previous club and extended his contract. Recently, he joined Benfica.
Enzo made his international debut in 2022 and showed great potential. Seeing his performance, Argentina has included him in the FIFA World Cup 2022 squad.

Enzo Fernandez Started His Football Career In River Plate
Enzo Fernandez joined a football academy of a local club La Recova. After some time, he moved to River Plate in 2006 where he completed his training and ultimately started his club career. He made his club debut on 27th January 2019 under manager Marcelo Gallardo.

Enzo played for the main team for the first time on 4th March 2020 in a match against L.D.U. Quito. He came to the pitch in the 75th minute as a substitution for Santiago Sosa which they lost 3-0. A few weeks before his first game, Enzo played in the 2020 U-20 Copa Libertadores held in Paraguay. There, he scored a magnificent goal in a game against Libertad.
Enzo Left River Plate on Loan
Enzo left his boyhood club River Plate on his then-manager’s advice and joined Defensa y Justicia on loan. After the signing, he played his first match for the club against Delfín in the Copa Libertadores on the 18th of September 2020. Fernandez entered the field as a substitute in the 75th minute which they won with three goals to one.
After being listed on the main team, Enzo played in the 2020 Copa Sudamericana final and their opponent were Lanús. They performed great that day and won the title with the final score being 3-0. It was his first title win.
His Return To River Plate
On 15 July 2021, Enzo came back to his River Plate. After returning, he played in the Copa Libertadores round-of-16 against Argentinos Juniors in their home stadium which ended up in a 1-1 draw. In that game, he impressed his managers and gained a spot as the starter. In his next game against Vélez Sarsfield, he led his team to victory by scoring a goal and providing an assist.
Enzo extended his deal with River Plate to 2025 on 20th December 2021. In the following year, he played in 19 games and scored eight goals. He also provided six assists and led his team to victory.
Enzo Fernandez Transfer To Benfica
In June 2022, River Plate and Benfica reached an agreement to transfer Enzo to the Primeira Liga team for $10 million. Besides that, Benfica also had to pay for 75% of his profitable rights and an extra $8 million. According to the agreement, he had to remain in his previous club until their Copa Libertadores campaign was over. After the campaign was over, he signed the deal with Benfica on the 14th of July. The club gave him the number 13 for his shirt.

Enzo played his first match for Benfica on 2nd August in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League qualifying phase and play-off round against Midtjylland. It was a great day for him as he also scored a goal in his debut game. He scored a magnificent volley which led his team to win the game. The final score of the match was 4-1.
In the following match against Arouca, he again scored a goal and led his team forward. At the end of the match, the result was 4-0.
Enzo Fernandez International Career
Enzo received the first call from Argentina’s under-20 team for the 2019’s L’Alcúdia International Football Tournament.
Two years later, on 3 November 2021, Enzo was called to play for his nation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Even though he was in the squad for two games, he spent the matches on the bench. The first game was between Argentina and Uruguay on 13th November. His team won the game when Ángel Di María scored a goal. The final result was 1-0. After their win against Uruguay, they faced Brazil on 17th November which ended in a nil-nil draw.
He made his senior team debut on 24th September 2022 in a friendly match against Honduras. He came on the field in the 64th minute for Paredes. Argentina won the match with a score of 3-1.
