PSG’s Kylian Mbappe Agrees to Join Real Madrid

The France captain has made no secret of his desire to leave PSG at the end of the season and seek fresh challenge in Spain with Real Madrid.

Mbappe is believed to have signed a contract with Real, though news of Mbappe’s impending arrival at the Spanish capital was already making headlines long before. Announcement of a deal could be imminent after it was confirmed that the two teams cant play each other in the champions league.

After earlier making his intentions clear in a meeting with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of not renewing his contract at PSG. Mbappe has been in negotiations with the Real management over the finer details of the summer move. Some of the formalities still need to be completed before making anything official. It would seems Real have finally managed to snag a player they had their eyes on for quiet a while.

The prolific French forward is PSG’s record goal scorer having scored 244 goals. His time at PSG was filled with achievements having won the league title five times though the Uefa champions league title remained elusive. That factor is understood to have been a major reason to seek a move away from the Parc de Princes.

Since Mbappe will run out of contract at PSG, he will be available to Real on a free transfer, who wont have to pay PSG a transfer fee. According to various media outlets, Mbappe has refused a mammoth offer from Manchester United as his heart was set on Real.

Mbappe is expected to take a significant pay cut in order to sign a 5 year contract with Real Madrid. The terms of his contract include 15m euro per year salary which is comfortably dwarfed by the 72m euros annual salary he currently earns at PSG and another 150m euro as signing bonus to be paid over a period of five years.

Mbappe though will still not be Real’s highest paid star as that title belong to the team’s more senior players in Toni Kroos and Luca Modric.

The world cup winner will bolster Real’s ranks already boasting of world class talents in Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo. Mbappe is considered as an ideal fit possessing great experience at only 25. Fans and management hope Real would greatly benefit from a player of his stature’s presence both in terms of competitiveness and marketing.

It is not yet clear which number jersey Mbappe would wear at Real, he is favorite to inherit the no. 10 jersey currently owned by Luka Modric if Modric decides to leave Madrid at the end of the season after his contract expires. Mbappe currently dons the number 7 jersey at PSG. The no.10 jersey also holds a significance, having earlier being worn by Blancos legend and countryman Zinedine Zidane, who was also instrumental in influencing Mbappe’s decision to choose Santiago Bernabeu in place of far more lucrative offers from across the globe.
